Itata Valley, Chile
Viña Lomas de Llahuen was born in 1986, by the brothers Francisco and Gustavo Riffo as a result of the unemployment of the time and low job opportunities present in the area. Their beginnings were not easy since they did not have capital or land to work and less with some production, but they had a business idea and a lot of desire to bend their hand to fate and emerge in their own land. Working with 20 hectares of their own vines, Lomas de Llahuén has old vines of País, Cinsault and Moscatel de Alejandría. They also have some newer vines of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Alicante Bouschet and Chardonnay. Some of the País vines are over 100 years old. The vineyards are in the Portezuelo region of Itata, where there are a handful of small local producers bringing new energy to a traditional region.
