Priorat, Spain

Castillo Perelada's success in red wine production in Emporda led them in quest for property in Priorat. They settled and invested in two properties in Bellmunt del Priorat. The Casa Gran estate covers 10 hectares of deep flat land, mainly composed of volcanic and sedimentary alluvial soils from the river Siurana. The vineyard houses the Casa Gran farmhouse, which lends its name to the winery. The farmhouse has a history dating over three hundred years and was the former headquarters of the Carthusian monks of Scala Dei. It was the monks who introduced winemaking to this region. La Fredat estate covers 40 hectares of mountainous terraced land comprised of mostly volcanic and slate soils. The vineyards and winery have been active since 2000 under the direction of Spanish wine consultant Jose Luis Perez, of Clos Martinet.
