Cabernet Franc

Loire Valley, France

Based in Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil, in the Loire Valley’s Touraine region, Frederic Mabileau is a 28ha estate which has emerged over the last 20 years as one of the world’s greatest producers of Cabernet Franc. The Domaine has been run by Frederic’s wife, Natalie and her two sons, Charly & Remy since the tragic passing of Frederic in August 2020.

Bourgueil & Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil used to be both under the same entity until 1937 when the two villages split to become two separate appellations. Easy to understand when tasting them side-by-side: Saint Nicolas’ wines are perfumy and fruit driven, Bourgueil wines are denser and deliver a deeper
expression of the varietal. It’s their terroir that makes them so distinct; Saint Nicolas is based on a single terrace of alluvium from the former Loire riverbed when Bourgueil is composed of 7 different villages located mostly on a clay and “tuffeau” limestone hillside.
