Pinot Noir

Burgundy, France

The Bize family originated in the Savoie region and moved to Burgundy in the early 19th century where the Bize family continued to make wine. Patrick Bize, a leader in Savigny, often considered an underrated region of Burgundy, took over in 1988. Sadly, Patrick passed away suddenly in 2013 but his work is continued by his wife Chisa and sister, Marielle Bize-Grivot. The domaine is well known for the quality of their viticulture; yields are systematically low – often around 30 hl/ha. Their principal goal is to harvest grapes with a perfect balance between ripeness and acidity in order to make precise, delicate wines that represent their terroirs. Whites are aged in between 15%-30% new oak, while the reds are aged in little to no new oak to preserve their freshness. One of the domaine’s particularities is to work with whole clusters or partial whole clusters, based on the appellation and the vintage, which yields elegant wines of great finesse.
